Mescal Trail is relative short (2.6 miles round trip), but it is easy to connect with other trails to make it a long hike. And the view is pretty good along the path. I’ve hiked there a number of times. However, I didn’t know there were ruins until recently.
Several weeks ago my friend Gary took me to a ruin off Mescal Trail. It is really small; I wonder who lived there and how many people crammed in such a tiny space. Perhaps it was only a “vacation home” since the view up there is awesome. 🙂
On our way back, we noticed several small crevices up the hill which could potentially be ruins. So yesterday, we decided to take a look. Although it is just a short distance, it is pretty steep. We had to scramble at places. But the reward is definitely worth the effort—we found a small ruin on our own! The funny part is, the ruin we found isn’t one of the cavities we originally saw and predicted when we were at the bottom of the hill. It is around a corner behind those crevices. I’m so glad our curiosity took us up the hill and found a ruin, unexpectedly.
